Further Information

These maps display annual days over 95 °F under 2 °C (3.6 °F) and 3 °C (5.4 °F) of warming, compared to 1991-2020 climate normals. These projections were derived from the 6th phase of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Projects (CMIP6).††

95 °F (35 °C) is considered a threshold at which heat poses a health risk, especially in combination with high humidity.†† Heat stress is a leading cause of weather-related deaths, particularly for the elderly and outdoor workers.† It can exacerbate conditions such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and asthma, and can aggravate mental illness and violent incidents.†
